About Us
Carla combines her experience and skill in ceramics and glass with her passion for color and fabric as she co-creates designs for Quilted Frog. Carla has designed and produced items for her former company Clay Castle and her partnership in Studio designs and now her own company Designs By Carla. Carla has also produced gallery pieces for Warner Brothers Stores and Items for Disney Catalog and parks. Each pieces is painstakingly crafted from concept to completion, requiring much handling along with multiple firings. Each piece is hand created and painted with fine detail. Whether she is designing a piece for Designs by Carla or someone else, Carla Scott enjoys the process of creating. She states, ”Even in my free time I am always doing watercolor or acrylic paintings. I love the creative process and everything involved with it”.
Leanne has an extensive fine arts background and holds a B.F.A. in Photography. She works in black and white photography and digital imaging. Her narrative style often employs groups of images used to express complex ideas. For many years she and her husband ran a photography studio as well as printing for other studios. In 2001, Leanne earned a M. Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction. She now teaches high school level photography and computer based graphic art in Tempe, Arizona.
Leanne has been involved in fiber arts since childhood. She is a gifted teacher who enjoys introducing others to the fiber crafts she loves. She has enjoyed her many opportunities to teach art, sewing and fiber arts to others with similar interests. Leanne is happiest when she is experimenting and creating artwork in different media. She has a special love for sewing and fiber media. “If a technique involves thread in any way, I am interested in doing it.”
Carla and Leanne have been sewing from the age of ten. They both have a love of sewing and have studied it in junior high, high school and college. In 2000 Carla caught the quilting bug and has been busy designing, making and teaching quilting ever sense. Leanne began quilting over thirty years ago while in high school. In 2003, Carla and Leanne decided to work together designing quilting patterns. They both love the idea of creative art and have fun with the whimsical quilt subjects and bright colors which are just their cup of tea. So they named their company Quilted Frog and the adventure began.
Carla and Leanne have designed and produced many new quilt patterns and have been vendors at the Houston Quilt Market since 2003. As Quilted Frog has expanded Carla has become an expert longarm machine quilter. Carla and Leanne have won several awards for their designs and longarm quilting as well as having several quilt design published in magazines.
